Under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with the help of an endoscope or microscope, a small incision is made in the eardrum. If there is fluid in the middle ear, it is drained, and a tube, also known as a ventilation tube or ear tube, is inserted. The patient is typically discharged on the same day.
